Burton Cummings

Burton Cummings is a Canadian musician, singer, and songwriter who was the lead vocalist for the rock band The Guess Who from 1965 to 1975. After leaving the band, Cummings embarked on a successful solo career and released several hit albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

As the frontman of The Guess Who, Cummings was known for his powerful and soulful vocals, as well as his songwriting abilities. The band had numerous hit songs during their time together, including "American Woman," "No Time," and "Share the Land."

After leaving The Guess Who, Cummings continued to write and record music as a solo artist, with some of his most popular songs including "Stand Tall," "I'm Scared," and "Break It to Them Gently." He has also collaborated with other musicians throughout his career, including Randy Bachman of The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

Cummings has been recognized for his contributions to Canadian music, receiving multiple awards and honors over the years. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1987 and received a star on Canada's Walk of Fame in 2001.

Hartman Recommends:
Assuming you're a fan of Burton Cummings and The Guess Who or you wouldn't have gotten this far, I highly recommend the 1994 CD "The Burton Cummings Collection", since it has all of the hits from his solo era plus a few cuts previously unavailable in the U.S.  And I really like "Up Close and Alone", a live CD of just Burton with his piano performing both his solo hits and songs from his Guess Who days...great stuff.
