The Cowsills

The Cowsills were a family pop-rock band from Newport, Rhode Island, that was active primarily in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The band consisted of siblings Bill, Bob, Barry, John, Susan, and Paul, with their mother Barbara also serving as their manager.

The Cowsills began as a vocal group in the early 1960s, singing at school assemblies and local events. They released their first single, "All I Really Wanta Be Is Me," in 1965, but it wasn't until 1967 that they had their first hit with "The Rain, the Park, and Other Things," which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The band's popularity continued to grow with hits like "Indian Lake" and "Hair," which was featured in the musical of the same name. The Cowsills also appeared on television shows like "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson."

Despite their success, the band experienced tension and conflicts behind the scenes, particularly between their father, who was also their music director, and some of the siblings. The group disbanded in the early 1970s, but some of the siblings continued to make music together and individually.

The Cowsills' music has been described as upbeat, sunny pop-rock with tight harmonies and catchy melodies. They were known for their youthful, wholesome image, which contrasted with some of the more rebellious rock bands of the time.
