Fastball

Fastball is an American rock band that formed in Austin, Texas in 1995. The band consists of three members: Tony Scalzo (vocals, bass, keyboards), Miles Zuniga (vocals, guitar), and Joey Shuffield (drums).

Fastball rose to fame in the late 1990s with their hit song "The Way," which peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1998. The song, with its catchy melody and storytelling lyrics, tells the story of an elderly couple who disappear during a road trip to a new life in California. The success of "The Way" helped the band's second album, "All the Pain Money Can Buy," to reach platinum status and earn two Grammy nominations.

Fastball's music is characterized by their blend of rock, pop, and alternative influences, as well as their strong songwriting and vocal harmonies. Their other notable hits include "Out of My Head," "Fire Escape," and "You're an Ocean." Over the years, the band has continued to release albums and tour, and they have a dedicated fan base.

Fastball's music has been praised for its catchy hooks, relatable lyrics, and tight musicianship. They are considered a quintessential band of the 1990s alternative rock scene and continue to be appreciated by fans of the genre.

  • Miles Zuniga - guitar/keyboards/vocals - b. Laredo, Texas - formerly with Big Car.
  • Joey Shuffield - drums/percussion - b. Austin, Texas - formerly with Big Car, Wild Seeds, and The Beaver Nelson's Band.
Albums:
  1. "Make Your Mama Proud" (1996) - Single: "Human Torch"
  2. "All the Pain Money Can Buy" (1998) - Singles: "The Way", "Out Of My Head" - I know that Fastball is a new band and not "classic rock", but their sound captures its essence.  What is it about these guys that makes their music sound so good...is it the infectious drive in the music, is it the slightly rough garage band sound and great harmonies, or is it the sheer energy and creativeness that I don't think I've heard since (dare I say it?) The Beatles?  This is a great album with no weak cuts that just gets better with each listen.  Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.  Thanks, guys, for bringing us some new music worth listening to. -GSH
  3. "The Harsh Light Of Day" (2000)
  4. "The Harsh Light Of Day (limited edition)" (2000) - featuring three additional tracks, including a live version of "The Way" recorded in Australia.

Compilations:
  1. "Painting The Corners: The Best Of Fastball" (2002)
