Greg Lake

Greg Lake was a British musician and songwriter who was best known as the bassist, guitarist, and vocalist for the progressive rock bands King Crimson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP). He was born on November 10, 1947, in Poole, Dorset, England, and passed away on December 7, 2016, at the age of 69.

Lake first gained fame as a founding member of the band King Crimson in 1969, which is considered one of the pioneers of the progressive rock genre. He played bass, guitar, and provided lead vocals on their debut album "In the Court of the Crimson King," which is regarded as one of the most influential progressive rock albums of all time.

After leaving King Crimson in 1970, Lake formed Emerson, Lake & Palmer with keyboardist Keith Emerson and drummer Carl Palmer. The band quickly became one of the most successful and influential progressive rock bands of the 1970s, known for their intricate musical arrangements and theatrical stage shows. Lake played bass, guitar, and provided lead vocals for the band, and also contributed to their songwriting.

ELP released a string of successful albums throughout the 1970s, including "Tarkus," "Trilogy," and "Brain Salad Surgery," which featured hit singles like "Lucky Man" and "From the Beginning." Lake also released several solo albums during this time, including "Greg Lake" and "Manoeuvres."

In addition to his work with King Crimson and ELP, Lake also collaborated with other musicians throughout his career, including guitarist Gary Moore and Asia drummer Carl Palmer. He was also known for his charitable work, including organizing the "Help for Heroes" charity concert in 2010 to benefit wounded British servicemen and women.

Overall, Greg Lake was a highly respected musician and songwriter who played a significant role in the development of progressive rock. His powerful vocals, melodic bass playing, and intricate guitar work continue to inspire musicians and fans today.
