Grinderswitch

Grinderswitch was a southern rock band that was formed near Macon, Georgia in 1973. The band's name is derived from a railroad term that refers to a device used to redirect a train from one track to another.

The founding members of Grinderswitch were Dru Lombar (vocals, guitar), Joe Dan Petty (vocals, keyboards), Larry Howard (vocals, guitar), Rick Burnett (bass), and Rick Cobb (drums). Larry Howard was the younger brother of Duane Allman, who was a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band.

Grinderswitch was known for their high-energy live performances and their mix of rock, blues, and country music. They released their debut album, "Honest to Goodness," in 1974, which featured guest appearances by members of the Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The album received critical acclaim and helped to establish Grinderswitch as one of the leading southern rock bands of the 1970s.

Over the next several years, Grinderswitch released several more albums, including "Macon Tracks" (1976), "Pullin' Together" (1978), and "Redwing" (1980). The band continued to tour extensively and built a loyal fanbase, but they never achieved the same level of commercial success as some of their peers in the southern rock genre.

Grinderswitch disbanded in 1982, but several members of the band continued to perform and record music. Larry Howard went on to form his own band, the Larry Howard Band, and released several solo albums before his death in 2009. Joe Dan Petty, Dru Lombar, and Rick Burnett also continued to perform and record music in various capacities. Today, Grinderswitch is remembered as one of the great southern rock bands of the 1970s, and their music continues to be celebrated by fans of the genre.
