J. D. Blackfoot

J.D. Blackfoot was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, born as Benjamin Franklin Van Dervort in 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio. He passed away on November 12, 2013, in Powell, Ohio.

J.D. Blackfoot was known for his unique blend of folk, rock, and country music, with lyrics often focusing on spiritual and philosophical themes. He gained popularity in the 1970s with his album "The Ultimate Prophecy," which included the hit single "One Time Woman." The album was a concept album with a narrative about the decline of humanity and the need for spiritual transformation.

After the success of "The Ultimate Prophecy," J.D. Blackfoot released several more albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including "The Song of Crazy Horse," which told the story of the Native American leader and his struggle against the U.S. government. J.D. Blackfoot's music often drew from various cultural and historical influences, reflecting his interest in mythology, spirituality, and social justice.
