The Marmalade

The Marmalade is a Scottish pop rock band that was originally formed in Glasgow in 1961 as "Dean Ford and The Gaylords". The lineup then consisted of lead guitarist Pat Fairley, rhythm guitarist William "Junior" Campbell, bassist Bill Irving, drummer Raymond Duffy, and lead vocalist Dean Ford. Drummer Alan Whitehead and bassist Graham Kight replaced Duffy and Irving, both of whom had been with the band during its time as "The Gaylords", soon after the band became "The Marmalade" in 1966.

The band initially started out playing covers of popular rock 'n' roll songs, but they soon began to write and record their own material. They signed with Decca Records in 1966 and released their debut single, "It's All Leading Up to Saturday Night", which failed to chart. However, a subsequent single, a cover of The Beatles' "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da", became a huge hit in the UK, reaching the top of the charts in early 1969.

The Marmalade went on to have several more hits throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s, including "Reflections of My Life", "Rainbow", and "Falling Apart at the Seams". Their music was characterized by catchy melodies, harmonies, and upbeat instrumentation, often featuring prominent use of the flute and other woodwind instruments.

Although they never achieved the same level of success in the US as they did in the UK, The Marmalade continued to perform and record throughout the 1970s and beyond, with various lineup changes over the years. They were inducted into the Scottish Music Hall of Fame in 2005.
