The Sir Douglas Quintet

Sir Douglas Quintet was an American rock band formed in 1964 in San Antonio, Texas. The band consisted of Doug Sahm (vocals, guitar, keyboard), Augie Meyers (keyboard, vocals), Frank Morin (saxophone), Harvey Kagan (bass), and Johnny Perez (drums). The band was named after the British explorer Sir Douglas Mawson and the Mexican folk hero Pancho Villa.

The band's sound was a unique blend of rock, country, and Tex-Mex music, which was influenced by their Texan roots. Their biggest hit was "She's About a Mover," which was released in 1965 and reached #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was written by Doug Sahm and featured his signature blend of rock and Tex-Mex rhythms.

The band continued to release successful singles throughout the 1960s, including "The Rains Came," "Mendocino," and "Nuevo Laredo." They were also known for their energetic live performances and their flamboyant stage costumes, which often included cowboy hats and brightly colored suits.

Despite their success, the band disbanded in 1972. However, Doug Sahm continued to record and perform music until his death in 1999. In 2011, the band was inducted into the Texas Music Hall of Fame in recognition of their contributions to the state's music scene.
