Steppenwolf

Steppenwolf is a rock band that was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1967. The band's original lineup consisted of vocalist John Kay, guitarist Michael Monarch, bassist Rushton Moreve, keyboardist Goldy McJohn, and drummer Jerry Edmonton.

Steppenwolf became popular in the late 1960s with their hit songs "Born to Be Wild" and "Magic Carpet Ride", both of which are considered classics of the psychedelic rock era. "Born to Be Wild" is particularly notable for its use in the soundtrack of the classic 1969 movie "Easy Rider". The band's music was often characterized by its heavy use of electric guitars, keyboards, and driving rhythms.

In addition to their two biggest hits, Steppenwolf had several other popular songs during their heyday, including "The Pusher", "Rock Me", and "Sookie Sookie". The band continued to release albums and tour throughout the 1970s and 1980s, albeit with various lineup changes. John Kay remained the band's only constant member until Steppenwolf disbanded in 1976. However, the band reformed in 1980 with a new lineup and continued to perform and release music until the early 2000s.

Steppenwolf is widely regarded as one of the most influential and iconic rock bands of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Their music helped to define the sound of psychedelic and hard rock during this period

Steppenwolf was named after a Herman Hesse novel. Many thanks to Jim Davenport, who provided the information about the makeup of John Kay and Steppenwolf from 1980 to the present, and who also helped me correct several errors.  And thanks to Michael Wilk and Tom White, who helped me correct some errors with the lineup in the 1990s. -GSH
