Three Dog Night

Three Dog Night is an American rock band that was popular in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The band was formed in 1967 and consisted of vocalists Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron, and Cory Wells, along with backing musicians. Their name comes from an Australian expression that refers to a particularly cold night, when it is so cold that you need to cuddle up with three dogs to stay warm.

The band is known for their unique style, which combined rock, pop, and soul music. They had a string of hits throughout the 1970s, including "Joy to the World," "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)," "One," "Black and White," "Shambala," "Easy to Be Hard," "An Old Fashioned Love Song," and "Black and White," among others. They were also known for their signature three-part harmonies, which were a defining feature of their sound.

One of the reasons for Three Dog Night's success was their ability to pick and cover songs written by other artists, often bringing them to a wider audience. Some of their most popular covers include Randy Newman's "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)," Harry Nilsson's "One," and Laura Nyro's "Eli's Comin'."

The band disbanded in 1976 but reunited in 1981 and has continued to perform with various lineups over the years. Today, Danny Hutton is the only original member still performing with the band.

Three Dog Night has sold over 60 million records and has been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and the Grammy Hall of Fame. Today, Three Dog Night is remembered as one of the most successful rock bands of the 1970s, with 21 consecutive Top 40 hits and three number one singles.
