Jethro Tull

Jethro Tull is a British rock band formed in 1967. The band is named after an 18th-century agriculturist and inventor named Jethro Tull. The group originally started as a blues rock band, but quickly incorporated elements of folk, jazz, and classical music into their sound.

The band is led by Ian Anderson, who is known for his distinctive voice, flute playing, and stage persona. Anderson is also the primary songwriter and has been the only constant member throughout the band's history.

Jethro Tull gained popularity in the late 1960s and 1970s with their albums "This Was" (1968), "Stand Up" (1969), "Benefit" (1970), and "Aqualung" (1971). These albums featured a unique blend of rock, blues, and folk influences, and were marked by Anderson's dynamic flute playing and theatrical stage presence.

The band continued to release albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including "Thick as a Brick" (1972), "War Child" (1974), and "Songs from the Wood" (1977). In the 1990s and 2000s, Jethro Tull released a series of concept albums, including "Roots to Branches" (1995) and "The Jethro Tull Christmas Album" (2003).

Over the course of their career, Jethro Tull has sold over 60 million albums worldwide, and have been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. The band has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and has received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

From Blackpool, England.  Named for the eighteenth-century farmer who invented the machine drill for sowing seeds.  Thanks to Michael Sheets for keeping me straight with the lineup in the '90s. -GSH
