Robin Trower

Robin Trower is a British guitarist, singer, and songwriter who is best known for his work with the band Procol Harum and his solo career. He was born on March 9, 1945, in Catford, London, England.

Trower first gained recognition as a member of Procol Harum, a British progressive rock band known for their hit song "A Whiter Shade of Pale" in 1967. Trower joined the band in 1967 and played on several of their albums until he left in 1971 to pursue a solo career.

In his solo career, Trower became known for his use of the Stratocaster guitar and his distinctive blues-rock style. His first solo album, "Twice Removed from Yesterday," was released in 1973 and included the hit song "Man of the World." He went on to release several more successful albums, including "Bridge of Sighs" (1974), "For Earth Below" (1975), and "Long Misty Days" (1976).

Trower's music is often characterized by his use of heavy distortion, melodic guitar solos, and soulful vocals. He has been praised for his skill as a guitarist and his ability to blend elements of blues, rock, and psychedelic music in his songs.

Over the years, Trower has continued to release albums and tour extensively, and he remains a respected and influential musician in the rock world. Some of his notable songs include "Too Rolling Stoned," "Day of the Eagle," and "Bridge of Sighs."

Hartman Recommends:
Trower's classic second album "Bridge of Sighs" is an unquestionable necessity.  I also like the "Essential Robin Trower" compilation and "King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents: Robin Trower In Concert" (a 1995 release of a 1977 concert).
